  • Why these e-bikes?

All three e-bikes in the ECP program are UL2849 certified—the highest safety certification available today.

There have been more than 200 fires caused by faulty lithium-ion batteries in New York City in the past year. To address the fires, NYC adopted a bill requiring all new e-bikes sold in NYC to be UL-2849 certified.

  • WHAT IS UL-2849?

UL-2849 is a fire safety standard set by Underwriters Laboratory. It is considered the “gold standard” for fire safety on electric bikes. In the Spring, NYC Mayor Adams signed local law 39, requiring all new e-bikes sold in NYC to be UL-2849 certified by September 16th, 2023.

  • How do I pick up my new e-bike?

Participants can trade in their e-bikes at the approved bike shops and will receive a pickup date and location with their confirmation email.

  • I still have questions. Who can I talk to?

If your question is not answered above, please email info@equitablecommute.org

  • WHO IS SPONSORING THIS PROGRAM?

The Equitable Commute Project facilitates this program. It is supported with funding from Uber Eats and Door Dash.
